Specimen: Serum from Red Top tube only
Volume:  0.5 mL
Minimum Volume:  0.2 mL
Container: Red Top (no gel barrier) tube

Collection:

  1. Collect and label sample according to standard protocols.
  2. Gently invert tube 10 times immediately after draw. DO NOT SHAKE.
  3. Allow blood to clot 30 minutes at room temperature.
  4. Centrifuge for 10 minutes.
  5. Aliquot serum into transport tube labeled as “Red Top Serum” and cap tightly. Discard original tube.

Special Instructions: Collect blood in a Vacutainer® with no additives. Allow blood to clot (30 minutes) at room temperature, 18-25° C. Centrifuge and separate the serum from the cells. Freeze as soon as possible.

Transport:  Store serum frozen at -20°C after collection and ship on dry ice per packaging instructions included with the provided shipping box.
